A Player Response Theory
KEYNOTE by Kristine Jørgensen (UiB) at WARGAME Workshop 4: Player Perspectives

As interactive media that can be traversed in a number of different ways and which can be experienced quite differently based on playstyle and player skill, videogames cannot be fully understood without taking into account the multiple player perspectives that can emerge from a single text. In this keynote, I will argue for a player-response theory, inspired by the reader-response theory mainly of Iser and Eco, but with a focus on the inclusion of empirical players rather than implied players in research.

A video recording of the presentation can be accessed here. Gratitude to RESULT (UiT) for filming the event.
